Frankston Football Club is delighted to announce the re-signing of captain Josh Newman for the 2020 season. Newman made his return to SkyBus Stadium in 2019, with his stellar performances across the season being capped by being named in the VFL Team of the Year and finishing runner-up in the club Best and Fairest.
When Dolphins Media caught up with Josh after the signing he said, ‘It was a no-brainer for me to sign up again. It might be a bit harder to see from the outside, but we know what we are building towards at this club. We’ve been really strong on introducing quality people both as players and staff, on-field and off-field, and that will set us up for success. Our playing group is extremely tight and that developed so much over the course of the season. It’s exciting to think of where we can take our performance next year and beyond, with the introduction of a handful of players.’
Coach Danny Ryan couldn’t wipe the smile off his face at the news that his captain had re-committed to the club. ‘I hope Josh is the domino that sees all of our key players sign up in the next few weeks. We’re aggressively pursuing new players and coaches who will help make us better in 2020 and beyond, but I like to think in Josh and a few others, we already have some elite talent in our club who also happen to be strong and influential leaders. This is the group that is going to drive the Dolphins performance in the next few years and it’s exciting to see how invested they are in the direction the club is taking.’
Newman leads an initial group of 8 signings for the Dolphins, with others to put pen to paper:
- Leadership group member and crowd favourite Aloysio Ferreira-Neto
- Emerging tall defender Dylan Gordon
- Key backman and emerging leader Max Williams
- Courageous backman Liam Hiscock
- Classy small forward Beau Bailey
- Dolphin Academy graduates Will Arthurson and Tom Small
