In a huge positive for the Dolphins, 2019 Best & Fairest winner Will Fordham has re-committed to the Dolphins for next season.
Following his second stand-out season with the Dolphins, state league clubs from across the country were queued up to try to secure his services.
Speaking to Dolphins media after his signing, Fordham said, ‘In the end it comes down to my love for this club. Of course my family is heavily involved too. There’s on-field success just around the corner and I’m not sure if people see how committed the players and coaches are to that.’
Coach Danny Ryan said, ‘I couldn’t be more proud of Will for his development as a person and a leader over the past 12 months. He set the bar very high in 2018 but he took his play to another level in 2019, reflected in his Liston Medal performance. His 11 votes were the 5th most by any non-AFL listed player and with more team success he’s just the sort of player he could win one in the future. I really hope AFL clubs took notice of his performance this year, particularly his ability to win the ball in close and then break away with his legs. They are AFL attributes that he shows every week playing against AFL-listed players and I know he would make a success of it if he made it back on to an AFL list. If he doesn’t, he’s the sort of player that will improve again in the off-season and continue to lead and drive the standards within this young group.’
Stay tuned to Dolphins media for details of more activity in the off-season, including player signings.
