Jai Florent in 200 words

Despite only breaking through for four NAB League games last season for Sandringham Dragons, Florent shone as captain of Mentone Grammar in the AGSV competition.

Florent saw his leadership improve as he became more confident, and louder as the season progressed.

As a player, the lightly-framed Florent played inside the contest, improving his stoppage work and defensive accountability, given he couldn’t be overly reliant on his zip.

Also played senior footy on the wing for ‘Old Mentonians’ where he was given the autonomy to use his speed and agility to his advantage.

Was recruited to Frankston as a small forward or wingman, and his charismatic and amusing personality instantly fit in to the Frankston squad.

Has spent isolation training with Liam Hiscock and Kai Owens before restrictions were relaxed, while he also did gym sessions and running with his brother Ollie, listed with Sydney.

Jai garnered AFL interest from Sydney, training with his older brother at the Swans during pre-season, before joining Frankston.

Jai says Ollie has taught him about professionalism and organisation as a footballer, and the gym challenges were instrumental as the younger Florent looks to add size to his skinny frame, in preparation for regular senior footy.
