Promising ruckman, James ‘Janga’ Rendell has re-committed to the Dolphins for the 2020 season. Rendell played 9 games in his debut VFL season as a 19-year old, despite an interrupted pre-season, and quickly stood out with his aggression and competitiveness. A Victorian Metro representative in the 2018 NAB championships, the 200cm mobile ruckman is one to keep an eye in the coming seasons.
When we caught up with Rendell he said, ‘I’m really happy to sign up for next year. I’m looking forward to cracking into the pre-season, maybe putting on a bit of weight too.’
An unabashed Rendell fan, coach Danny Ryan was excited at the signing. ‘Janga has a real opportunity to make the no.1 ruck position his own in 2020. Most young talls take time to adjust to the physicality of the VFL but we found his best games were in the toughest conditions against quality opponents. He was really interrupted last pre-season so to see some of his performances at senior level in 2019 was really encouraging. He’s a driven young man in an unassuming way, so I think we’ll see real growth in his performance next season.’
