EX COLLINGWOOD/ST KILDA PLAYER NATHAN FREEMAN JOINS THE DOLPHINS

The Frankston Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Collingwood and St.Kilda midfielder and former top 10 draft pick, Nathan Freeman. At age 23, Nathan has had a highly publicised battle with injury during his AFL years but his debut for the Saints in August last year was one of the feel good stories of the year.

Senior coach Danny Ryan has a long history with our new recruit, having worked closely with him as a development coach during his time at Sandringham Dragons.  ‘Nathan is exactly the type of player we were targeting over summer. He’s clearly had a tough time of it with injury during his 5 years in the AFL system but he started to get some continuity in his training and playing last year and were really bullish about what he can achieve on-field in 2019 and beyond.

The reality is that if he shows physical durability in the next year or two and gets a chance to display his talent, he should end up back in the AFL system but he’s obviously got to focus on building a strong base over the pre-season.  His ability to win and burst from stoppage is what made him so attractive to recruiters during his draft year, so we’d see him being used in that role to make best use of those elite qualities.

It’s a really exciting signing for our club and hopefully a reflection of the program that’s building here, obviously starting with the work Skrob and the players put in last year.’
