Round 10 Match Report: Frankston vs Casey @SkyBus Stadium

Round 10 Match Report

Frankston Dolphins vs Casey Demons at SkyBus Stadium

By Trent Kniese

Round 10 was a frenzy for Frankston, who hosted their Community Day playing Casey. Max Gawn was in attendance to watch the Dolphins play the Casey Demons, while Lachie Gill (The Voice AU 2022 Winner) performed during the President’s Function. After returning to Melbourne from Adelaide, it was also Nathan Freeman’s first game back for the Dolphins.

This week marked Will Fordham’s 100th game, 48 of those with Frankston and 52 with Werribee and North Melbourne, when they were part aligned. Fordham, a previous B&F champion, has played with grit and effort throughout his football journey.

The Burton blitz kicked off the game, with Jeremy scoring the opening two goals for the Dolphins. Within the first six minutes, the opening goal of the game came from a set shot from roughly 45 metres away. Nathan Freeman, the prodigal son, set up his next goal by kicking into space for Burton to run and score about 10 minutes after his first. Frankston 2.1.13 to Casey 2.1.13 at the end of the first quarter.

The Dolphins had a rough second quarter, allowing six goals in a row. Frankston’s only goal of the quarter came from Bailey Lambert, who kicked a goal off the deck that even Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of. Frankston’s back six were bombarded with inside 50s from the Demons in the second half. Frankston 3.3.21, Casey 8.4.52 at the half.

Frankston did what they do best, coming out of the main break strong and finishing their games efficiently. They dominated the Demons in the second half, holding Casey to just two points in the third quarter. Brodie McLaughlin scored the game’s only goal in the third term, racing into an open goal within the opening seven minutes. Josh Begley perfectly set up the goal after winning a two-on-one to get the ball inside the 50. At the last interval, Frankston 4.7.31 to Casey 8.6.54 points.

Opening the fourth, Fordham scored in his 100th game, racing away to kick a snap with his right boot. McLaughlin scored late, and despite running all over the Demons in the second half, the Casey victory was safe.

In 2022, Casey averaged 53 inside 50s per game, but Frankston limited them to 31 on Sunday. An outstanding achievement, Frankston also dominated the hit out and clearance categories. The Demons applied persistent pressure, recording 89 tackles on the day.
