Frankston were valiant in defeat with a much better performance in their loss to Werribee Tigers – Dale Fenney Reports
The Dolphins came out donning their new home Guernsey and looked like a whole new outfit all together with a tough hit out against Werribee at Frankston Oval. Frankston were defeated by 38 points after showing massive signs of improvement.
The first quarter wasn’t the ideal start for Frankston going out scoreless as the Tigers produced four goals and jumped the gun early. After scoring three early goals the Dolphins slowed the tempo down and created opportunities that just weren’t executed. A late goal hurt the Dolphins as Werribee led by 29 points at quarter time.
The second quarter was great for Frankston outscoring Werribee and winning the term. Aaron Wilson kicked the first for the quarter for Frankston which was quickly followed by a Werribee reply. Once again though it was Aaron Wilson scoring his second for the term. After consecutive goals to the Tigers the Dolphins finished the quarter with back to back goals to Daniel Capiron and Jayden Cass including an after the siren crowd boosting goal to Cass to reduce the half time margin to four goals.
Werribee regained control of the match in the third term kicking four goals to Frankston’s one. Brayden Irving slotted a brilliant set shot for Frankston midway through the term for the Dolphins only goal for the quarter. Three quarter time saw the Tigers lead by 43 points.
The final term was a shoot-out with Frankston kicking five goals to Werribee’s four. For the second time of the day though Frankston were in control and scored another win for the quarter. Frankston’s goal-scorers in the final term were Ben Cavarra, Brayden Irving, Nathan Gardiner, Harrison Prior and Aaron Wilson. Werribee Tigers ran out as 38-point winners but Frankston were well and truly brave throughout the day.
Next week Frankston will again be at home when they play host to Richmond at Frankston Oval on Saturday.
