Box Hill Hawks fought hard at the first bounce to win the clearance and kick straight out to Jack Fitzpatrick to score the first goal under the first minute of the game. Frankston quickly replied with Ben Cavarra kicking a set shot goal 50m out. Box Hill broke the game open with the next three goals. The Dolphins struck back though with Harrison Prior kicking a crucial late goal for Frankston as the Hawks led by 13 points at quarter time.
The second term began with Frankston dominating early possession but they lacked the final touch. Box Hill punished the Dolphins with the opening goal almost 15 minutes after the start of the quarter. Frankston didn’t roll over though with Josh Pickess snagging a goal to reduce the lead. The only thing that separated both teams at half time was a late goal from Dallas Wilsmore for Box Hill as the Hawks took a 19-point lead into half time.
The Dolphins weren’t given any favors in the start of the second half with Box Hill extending their lead with three unanswered goals. Frankston cut off the Hawks scoring spread and sparked themselves into the contest but missed big chances from set shots. Frankston were given a sniff late with Ryan Exon scoring a goal to reduce the three quarter time margin to 30 points.
Box Hill were quick to kill off any major chance of a comeback with the opening two goals for the final term. Jordan Pollard kicked truly with a set shot for Frankston. Box Hill Hawks closed the match out with three unanswered goals to take the four points at home.
